DGFT Invites TRQ Applications for Automobile Imports under India–UK CETA for Calendar Year 2026

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has invited fresh applications for allocation of Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) for specified automobile imports under the India–United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (India–UK CETA) for Calendar Year 2026.

The applications have been invited through Public Notice No. 22/2026-27 dated 20 July 2026, issued in exercise of the powers conferred under paragraphs 1.03 and 2.04 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023. The Public Notice has been issued in continuation of Public Notice No. 19/2026-27 dated 9 July 2026.

Eligible applicants may submit their TRQ applications during the period beginning 21 July 2026 and ending on 4 August 2026.

Under the notified allocation, a TRQ quantity of 2,329 units has been provided for passenger motor vehicles imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs) with an engine capacity not exceeding 1,500 cc.

A further TRQ quantity of 2,329 units has been notified for CBU passenger motor vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 1,500 cc but not exceeding 3,000 cc in the case of petrol-run vehicles, or exceeding 1,500 cc but not exceeding 2,500 cc in the case of diesel-run vehicles.

For larger passenger vehicles, a TRQ quantity of 4,658 units has been provided for petrol-run vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 3,000 cc and diesel-run vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 2,500 cc.

The Public Notice also provides a TRQ quantity of 1,164 units for specified motor vehicles used for the transport of goods, other than electric or hydrogen fuel vehicles, when imported as Completely Built Units.

Imports under the notified TRQs will be permitted in accordance with the arrangements and procedures prescribed in Annexure-VII of Appendix 2A of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as referred to in Public Notice No. 19/2026-27 dated 9 July 2026.

The measure operationalises the application process for concessional tariff access available for the identified automobile categories under the India–UK CETA and provides a defined window for eligible importers to seek TRQ allocation for Calendar Year 2026.
