
The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, through its Tax Research Department under the initiative of the Direct Taxation Committee, has released the “Income Tax Ready Reckoner” for Tax Year 2026–27. The publication has been brought out as a structured quick-reference guide for Cost Accountants, tax professionals, corporate leaders, academicians, researchers, students and other stakeholders dealing with direct tax compliance.
The publication is the First Edition, June 2026, published by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, a statutory body under an Act of Parliament. The Ready Reckoner has been designed to provide concise and practical guidance on statutory tax rates, compliance requirements, deductions, exemptions, procedural provisions and important developments under the evolving direct tax framework.
As per the messages included in the publication, the Ready Reckoner assumes significance in view of the ongoing transformation of India’s direct tax system and the introduction of the Income Tax Act, 2025, which seeks to simplify and modernize the direct tax framework. The publication aims to help professionals and businesses understand tax implications, align their operations with emerging statutory provisions and ensure effective compliance.
The Ready Reckoner covers a wide range of subjects including basic concepts, residential status, exempt income, agricultural income, salary income, house property, business or profession income, capital gains, income from other sources, clubbing of income, set-off and carry forward of losses, deductions and relief, advance tax, TDS, PAN, return of income, intimation, interest, refund, penalties, company assessment, registered non-profit organisations and mode of payment.
The publication also highlights tax rates applicable for Tax Year 2026–27, including the default tax regime and old tax regime for individuals, HUFs, AOPs, BOIs and artificial juridical persons. It provides quick-reference tables for tax slabs, rebate provisions, surcharge, marginal relief, health and education cess, and tax rates applicable to firms, LLPs, cooperative societies, local authorities and companies.

The Tax Research Department has stated that the publication seeks to bridge the gap between policy intent and ground-level implementation by presenting direct tax provisions in a systematic and practice-oriented manner. It also places emphasis on digital tax administration, faceless assessment, AIS, TIS, pre-filled tax returns, TDS/TCS compliance and assessment procedures.
