Indore: GST Practitioners Complain About Registration Problems

Lodging their complaints with the commissioner, commercial tax-cum state GST about the problems in getting the GST registration number, tax consultants said here on Saturday that even on the basis of very petty and practical problems, applications seeking GST registration numbers were being cancelled.

The members of Commercial Tax Practitioner Association (CTPA) and Madhya Pradesh Tax Law Bar Association (MPTLBA) submitted a memorandum to the commercial tax commissioner, Madhya Pradesh and additional commissioner, CGST Bhopal.

The president of MP Tax Law Bar Association (MPTLBA), informed that the memorandum was regarding problems faced in GST registration. Citing an example, he said that the name and address of the applicant which was shown in the electricity bill, sometimes did not completely match with the address shown in the application, because the basis of the business address shown in the application was the registry or lease deed.

This problem was mostly faced by applicants from remote areas like towns etc. because their address was not complete and plot number, house number etc. were not available. Similarly, in some cases, the name shown in the electricity bill did not match the lease deed or registry or property receipts.

On this basis also, the application was rejected, citing the mismatch of information. If the applicant wanted to correct the name and address then also this process took a lot of time. He said as for electricity bills, the GST department also objected that the IVRS number was not updated.

This problem arose when the address changed from gram panchayat to municipal corporation. In these cases, applicants faced difficulties in getting GST registration.

Until IVRS was amended, the applicant was unable to get GST registration. Similarly, to update the principal place of business in GST registration, the link of central jurisdiction of the portal did not open most of the time, due to which one had to face trouble in updating the place, he said.
