The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in a major anti-corruption action, today, i.e. 20.05.2026, arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Giridih, in connection with a bribery case. The arrests were effected following a trap operation conducted by the CBI after a formal complaint was received from a complainant.
The CBI registered a case on 20.05.2026 on the basis of a complaint against the accused public servants. It was alleged that the accused CGST Superintendent and Inspector had demanded undue advantage of Rs. 90,000 from the complainant for resolving his Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatch. The accused had also threatened the complainant that his GST Number would be blocked if he failed to pay the demanded bribe amount, thereby coercing him into compliance.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the CBI laid a meticulously planned trap. The accused Superintendent and Inspector were caught red-handed while accepting undue advantage of Rs. 50,000 as part payment of the demanded bribe amount from the complainant. The entire trap operation was carried out in a planned and professional manner by the CBI team.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the official office premises as well as the residential premises of the accused public servants. The search operations were aimed at gathering evidence related to the case and any disproportionate assets connected with the alleged corrupt activities.
The accused persons are being produced before the competent court in Dhanbad, in accordance with the due process of law. The CBI will seek appropriate custody to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
Investigation in the case is continuing. The CBI remains committed to uprooting corruption from public offices and will pursue all avenues to bring the guilty to justice.
