GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), Hyderabad Bench Commences Operations to Strengthen GST Dispute Resolution Mechanism in Telangana

The GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), Hyderabad Bench has formally commenced its operations, marking a significant step towards strengthening the dispute resolution mechanism under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. As per Notification No. GSTAT/HYD/2026/2/NOTIFICATIONS dated April 17, 2026, the Bench will function from its temporary premises located at 3rd Floor, GST Bhavan, LB Stadium Road, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad, Telangana – 500004.

The establishment of the Hyderabad Bench is aimed at facilitating expeditious disposal of GST-related appeals and enhancing ease of compliance for taxpayers and other stakeholders in the region. The Bench shall exercise jurisdiction over the State of Telangana as notified by the Department of Revenue vide Notification No. S.O. 5063(E) dated November 26, 2024. It will adjudicate appeals filed under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, and the Telangana Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, as applicable.

In order to streamline procedural compliance, it has been stipulated that in cases where defects are identified in appeal filings, parties shall rectify such defects within a period of seven days. The Registrar, upon being satisfied with the reasons for delay, may grant an extension; however, such extension shall not exceed a total period of 30 days.

It has been observed that a number of appeals are being filed with deficiencies, particularly relating to court fees and documentation. To address this issue, the Registrar Court of the Hyderabad Bench will commence sittings from April 20, 2026 onwards at 11:30 AM at the notified premises. This initiative is expected to ensure timely rectification of defects and smooth processing of appeals.

Further, the daily cause list of cases will be issued one day prior to the scheduled hearing. Until the official website becomes fully operational, communication regarding listings will be made via email to taxpayers, jurisdictional authorities, and tax practitioners’ associations. Stakeholders are advised to regularly track updates and attend the Registrar Court as required.

Trade and industry associations, chambers of commerce, tax bar associations, and legal practitioners have been requested to disseminate this information widely among their members to ensure awareness and compliance.

This notification has been issued with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice President of the GST Appellate Tribunal.

The GST Appellate Tribunal serves as the second appellate authority under the GST framework, providing a crucial platform for resolution of disputes between taxpayers and tax authorities. The operationalization of the Hyderabad Bench is expected to significantly reduce litigation pendency and improve the efficiency of the GST adjudication system in the region.
