CBI registers case against 3 Income Tax officials in Khordha over bribery allegations

A bribery allegation involving three Income Tax officials in Khordha has led to the registration of a case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after evidence supporting the claims was found. The accused officials include Inspector T. Satya Narayan Rao, Clerk Bhimsen Barik, and Data Entry Operator Kumar Samaresh.

Bribe Allegations Linked to PAN Card Deactivation

The case stems from a complaint filed by Subash Chandra Sahoo, a farmer from Panchgaon under the Airfield police station. Sahoo approached the Khordha Income Tax office to request the deactivation of a newly issued PAN card. During his visit, Clerk Bhimsen Barik allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to process the request. Subsequently, Inspector T. Satya Narayan Rao is said to have demanded an additional Rs 10,000 to complete the process.

According to Sahoo’s complaint, the officials threatened that his application would not be processed unless the demanded bribe was paid.

CBI Registers Case After Evidence Emerges

Following the alleged demands, Sahoo approached the CBI and lodged a formal complaint. The CBI investigated the matter, gathering evidence that supported the bribery allegations. Based on this evidence, the agency registered a case against all three officials.

This development raises serious concerns about corruption within public offices and is expected to lead to further investigation into the conduct of the accused officials. The CBI’s actions highlight the continued efforts to address bribery and corruption in government departments.
