
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections remained robust in March, with gross receipts rising 8.8 per cent year‑on‑year to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore, signalling steady consumption momentum toward the end of the financial year. Net GST collection climbed 8.2 per cent to Rs 1.78 lakh crore, supported by higher inflows across central, state and integrated GST. For the full financial year, GST collections stood at Rs 22.27 lakh crore in FY26, marking an 8.3 per cent increase over the previous year.
Total refunds stood at Rs 0.22 lakh crore, rising 13.8 per cent year-on-year, resulting in net GST revenue of Rs 1.78 lakh crore during the month. Notably, Maharashtra emerged as the largest contributor to GST revenues, accounting for around Rs 0.13 lakh crore in pre‑settlement collections, followed by Karnataka and Gujarat.
On a post‑settlement basis, several states reported year‑on‑year growth in State GST (SGST) collections, including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, among others.
Central, state and integrated GST collections posted steady year‑on‑year growth in March. Central GST (CGST) collections rose 6.3 per cent to Rs 40,549 crore, compared with Rs 38,145 crore a year ago, while State GST (SGST) receipts increased 6.8 per cent to Rs 53,268 crore, up from Rs 49,891 crore in the corresponding period last year. Integrated GST (IGST) saw the strongest growth, climbing 10.9 per cent year‑on‑year to Rs 1.06 lakh crore, as against Rs 95,810 crore last year.
