Paid 13.7 k cr to Jharkhand in GST share; MoS finance Pankaj Chaudhary

The Centre does not owe any outstanding payments to the Jharkhand government with respect to GST share and cess, the Union finance ministry stated in the Lok Sabha earlier this week.

Replying to a question raised by Congress MP Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav) on February 3, in the ongoing budget session, the MoS finance Pankaj Chaudhary said: “There is no outstanding amount payable to the state of Jharkhand with respect to state’s share of GST and other dues. The Centre has already released the entire amount of GST compensation of about Rs 13,749 crore, including the back-to-back loan after the Covid 19 pandemic, to the state of Jharkhand as per the mandate of the Constitution.”

During the winter session of Parliament, the Centre had denied that Jharkhand had dues worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore on coal related operations in the state, triggering a political slugfest in the state between the JMM led INDIA bloc and the BJP-led NDA.
