Uttar Pradesh’s tax revenue has risen under BJP govt

Highlighting what he termed an unprecedented surge in Uttar Pradesh’s tax revenue, Sarojininagar BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Monday said the sharp rise in collections reflects the strong leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath and state govt’s commitment to transparent governance.

Singh said during the SP govt, the state’s tax revenue stood at around Rs 54,000 crore in 2012–13 and increased to approximately Rs 85,000 crore in 2016–17. He alleged that during that period, administrative laxity, corruption and political patronage led to significant revenue leakages.

In contrast, he said, the present BJP govt adopted strict policy measures, zero tolerance towards corruption, and technology-driven reforms to plug leakages and strengthen the revenue system. As a result, the estimated tax revenue for 2026–27 is projected to reach Rs 3.34 lakh crore—nearly four times higher than previous figures.

Singh credited the growth to decisive action against illegal mining, sand mafias, electricity theft and organised revenue evasion. He added that digital systems and law-based administration made tax collection more transparent, accountable, and efficient.

He further said that Uttar Pradesh has transitioned “from patronage politics to rule of law, from corruption to transparency and from disorder to good governance”.
