IndiGo receives Rs 13.28 lakh GST demand from Punjab Tax Department

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent company of IndiGo, informed the stock exchanges — BSE and NSE — on Thursday, December 25, that it has received a tax demand order from the authorities of the state of Punjab.

Penalty relates to GST demand for FY22

The order issued by the office of the Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes, Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab has imposed a penalty of Rs 13,28,255. This penalty pertains to the GST demand issued by the department for the financial year 2021-22.

Company informed exchanges on December 24

According to the regulatory filing made under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Regulations, the company received the intimation regarding the order on December 24, 2025.

IndiGo parent disputes demand, plans to challenge order

In its disclosure, IndiGo dismissed the validity of the demand and termed the order as “erroneous”. The airline said it “believes that it has a strong case on merits” and this position is “backed by advice from external tax advisors”.

“Accordingly, the Company will contest the same before the appropriate authority,” the filing noted.

No material impact on financials, company says

Addressing concerns about the potential impact on the airline’s sustainability, InterGlobe Aviation clarified that the fine will not have any significant impact on the company. The filing stated there is “no significant impact on financials, operations or other activities of the Company” as a result of this order.

On a separate note, IndiGo has also issued a travel advisory warning passengers about flight disruptions on Thursday, due to dense fog and low visibility over Bengaluru. The airline said, it is closely monitoring the weather conditions and providing full support to ensure safe and smooth travel for its passengers.

In its advisory, IndiGo said, “Flight timings have been changed due to low visibility and fog in Bengaluru. We are closely monitoring the weather and making every effort to ensure you reach your destination safely and smoothly.”

The advisory urged passengers to keep themselves updated on the status of their flights through the airline’s official channels. “We request that you stay updated on your flight status bit.ly/3ZWAQXd. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support,” the advisory further read.
