Two central GST officials accused of demanding a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a hotelier were remanded to judicial custody on Monday by a special CBI court here, after their three-day agency remand ended. Assistant Commissioner Vivek Verma and Inspector Sachin Khare were arrested when they allegedly accepted Rs 4 lakh in protection money following a Rs 1 crore recovery notice to the complainant. CBI sleuths laid a trap, sending the hotelier with cash; the pair were caught red-handed while a third suspect, GST office superintendent Mukesh Verman, fled and remains absconded.
