‘Pay Tax and Relax,’ says Chief Commissioner of Income Tax

As part of Income Tax Day celebrations, the Income Tax Department Srinagar, under the leadership of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh) Vikram Sahay, organised a tax awareness programme at Dak Bungalow Sopore on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, Sahay—a 1992-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service—emphasised the importance of timely compliance, accurate declaration, and the critical role of taxes in nation-building. He assured taxpayers of swift grievance redressal and expanded outreach efforts to improve awareness and trust in the system.

“Pay tax and relax,” Sahay told the audience, underscoring the department’s taxpayer-friendly approach. He said more such programmes will be conducted across districts in the Kashmir valley in a focused and inclusive manner.

The event drew over 100 local traders, tax professionals, and representatives from the Sopore Traders Association, Income Tax Bar Association, and the Kashmir chapter of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among other business bodies.

District Administration Baramulla and Sopore Police provided active support in organising the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from the local business community.

The programme included a concise presentation on key income tax provisions by Abhineet Jhorar, Income Tax Officer, Srinagar. This was followed by a question-and-answer session that addressed concerns raised by attendees.

The event was led by a team of senior officers from the Income Tax Department, Srinagar, including Farhat Khan, Commissioner of Income Tax; Dr. Ruveda Salam, Joint Commissioner; Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Deputy Commissioner; Moin Siddiqui and Vimal Madan, Income Tax Officers; and Gulzar Ahmad, ITO (TDS).

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, was also present and played a key role in facilitating the programme.

Representatives of the Sopore trade community appreciated the outreach effort and called for more such interactive programmes to help create a positive and transparent ecosystem around taxation.
