Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a revenue growth of ₹1200 crore under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime ine last fiscal year, Tax and Excise commissioner Lobsang Tsering announced on Tuesday, adding that over ₹300 crore was collected in first half of the current financial year.
“Taxpayers are the backbone of India’s development. Their contribution fuels the nation’s progress,” Tsering said while speaking at the 8th GST Day celebration, organised by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Excise Commissionerate (CEC) here.
The event, themed “GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens,” at State Banquet Hall here and marked eight years of the GST regime in the country. The celebration brought together taxpayers, entrepreneurs, officials and dignitaries to reflect the GST journey and promote awareness on tax compliance.
Rajiv Gandhi University vice chancellor Prof Sushanta Kumar Nayak, specking as chief guest, lauded the department’s efforts in fostering a culture of tax compliance and highlighted the transformative impact of GST on Indian economy.
The event included felicitation of five entrepreneurs for exemplary tax compliance. The GoAP officials and police personnel were also honoured for their contributions for effective tax administration.
M/s Lifecare proprietor Likha Jully Neelam, one of the awardees, shared her experience navigating the evolving GST system. The initial years were challenging, but with improved digital tools and local officers’ support, compliance has become simpler and more transparent, she said.
CGST commissioner Shyam Kanu Mahanta, in his address earlier, highlighted the CEC’s initiatives in enforcement and taxpayer facilitation. Joint commissioner Amit Kumar Singh also spoke. Two short films by Itanagar CGST and New Delhi’s Directorate General of Taxpayer Services showcasing GST’s progress over last eight years were screened.
