15% rise in Chandigarh’s January GST mop-up

The UT Administration has witnessed a growth of 15% in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in January in comparison to the gross levy collected during the corresponding period last year.

According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, the GST collection for January stood at Rs 255 crore, which is Rs 33 crore more than Rs 222 crore mopped up in the same month in 2025.

The city had witnessed a growth of just 2% in the tax collection in December last year in comparison to the levy collected during the corresponding period in 2024. The GST collection for December last year stood at Rs 188 crore, which was Rs 5 crore more than Rs 183 crore mopped up in the same month in 2024. The UT had registered 6% growth in GST collection in November last year, as the collection stood at Rs 243 crore, which was Rs 13 crore more than Rs 230 crore mopped up in the same month in 2024.

However, the tax collection had seen a decline of 4% in October last year. The collection stood at Rs 233 crore, which was Rs 10 crore less than Rs 243 crore mopped up in the same month in 2024.

The UT had registered 17% growth in September last year. The collection hit Rs 231 crore, which was Rs 34 crore more than Rs 197 crore generated in the same month in 2024.

Earlier, the GST collection in the city saw a drop of 2% in June last year and the tax collection dropped to 5 per cent in July and witnessed a further decline of 12 per cent in August last year.

At Rs 363 crore, the UT had registered a record increase of 53% in the gross GST collection in May last year. The collection was Rs 237 crore, which was Rs 126 crore more than collected during the same month in 2024.

The city saw a 7% hike in the GST collection in April last year at Rs 334 crore, which was Rs 21 crore more than Rs 313 crore collected during the same month in 2024.
