The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Visakhapatnam Zonal Unit, Visakhapatnam, having jurisdiction over entire Andhra Pradesh, in the last two months, undertook search operations at 13 hotels and restaurants in Visakhapatnam, Mandapeta, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Guntur, Ongole, Nellore and Kurnool.
In the search operations, it was found that these 13 hotels and restaurants had suppressed the value of taxable supplies, showing much lower values than the amounts collected from the customers in relation to sales in their hotels and restaurants.
The modus operandi by these hotels and restaurants is the deletion of invoices from the accounts in the customised software, which resulted in suppression of actual turnover on which tax is to be paid. The total suppressed value is noticed to be around Rs 115 crore and GST evaded on the value is around Rs 5.69 crore. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) is further investigating the cases.
